If you are looking for things to do in Joliet, there are a number of things that can help you stay engrossed.

Joliet has a continental climate, leaning slightly towards a humid and hot side due to its proximity to several water bodies – which means that you have a great weather all year round.

It’s built around two major rivers, the Des Plaines River and the DuPage River and is divided on the east and west side.

 

Location

Our new service area at Costa Ivone, LLC is Joliet, Illinois. Joliet is a city in the US state of Illinois, is the county seat of Will County, and is located at a distance of 64 km from the state capital of Chicago.

With an exact geographical location is 41°31′14″N 88°09′02″W, it lies on a sprawling 162.57 km2.

Its boundaries merge with those of nine townships, namely, Joliet, Plainfield, Troy, New Lenox, Jackson, Channahon, Lockport, Na-Au-Say and Seward.

The famous Illinois and Michigan canal, which was built in 1948, is a major waterway. There are several other creeks, canals and streams that flow within the city, like the Hickory Creek, the Jackson Creek, the Aux Sable creek and the Spring Creek.

The other minor water bodies, lakes and ponds in the city are the Chase Lake, the Lake Juco, and the Michigan Beach; among others.

 

Landmarks:

The most famous landmarks of the city include both the rich heritage of the city and incorporate its urban and modern half. The Joliet Area Historical Museum, the Route 66 Visitors Centre, the Chicago Speedway (NASCAR) and the Route 66 Raceway are the major landmarks of the city.

The Joliet Area Historical Museum tells the stories of Joliet’s rich heritage and history, and is home to a historical society. It is a famous point on the famed Route 66.

The Chicago Speedway hosts a series of annual events by NASCAR. The National Hot Rod Association holds events at the Route 66 Raceway.

The city is also home to the Autobahn Country Club, which has hosted several racing car events.

 

Streets

A much in-demand Joliet government location for the shooting of crime shows and movies, the Joliet Prison boasts of being featured in the popular TV show, Prison Break.

 

The city houses the Rialto Square Theatre, which has been featured in the movie, Stir of Echoes. It is located on Chicago Street, in its downtown area.

The city has two casinos located on the river, the Hollywood Casino and Harrah’s casino. These casinos are playgrounds for the rich and wealthy, and are frequented by affluent persons.

The Louis Joliet Mall, named after its first settler, is located downtown, in the heart of Joliet’s commercial and business hub. It provides a wide variety of shopping and entertainment options for the city’s residents.

Famous Structures

The Jacob A Henry Mansion is located at 20 South Eastern Avenue is a Second Empire and Italian Renaissance style building. It was built out of the famed Joliet limestone in 1873.

The mansion won the famous Architecture Award in 1876 at the American Centennial Celebration and is said to be the best example Renaissance Revival architecture in Illinois.

The mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The city also is home to the Silver Cross Field, home of the Joliet Slammers.

 

Parks and Recreation:

It’s not just beautiful parks that you can head off to; there are water parks as well. Visit the Splash Station water park during the summers, and slide your way to some great fun!

If you would rather have a stroll or attend a concert right while taking a stroll, Nowell park is a good option.  The place has more than one concert lined up nearly every month, and can be the perfect way to spend those weekends.

Should you rather enjoy your time golfing, there are some popular options available as well.  There are four golf courses in Joliet, listed below:

Pilcher Park is one of Joliet’s oldest parks, spread out over 640 acres. The Pilcher Park Nature Center is located in Pilcher Park, and is active in hosting several community events.

Hammel Woods contains hiking trails and a sprawling dog park.
